The Unexpected Crocodile

Author(s): Kim Kane

Children

Peggy's family is hosting a barbecue for their neighbours, the Dawsons. Peggy isn't too sure about those Dawson boys. But she's delighted when an unexpected crocodile invites himself to tea...with unexpected consequences! 'I reckon Kim is Australia's Roald Dahl in the making and Sara the next Quentin Blake. What a team!' Award-winning author Kirsty Murray 'Acton's mad-dash, cartoon-style illustrations bear a family resemblance to Quentin Blake's; their light touch is nicely suited to Kane's pokerfaced storytelling.' Publishers Weekly, US Loose, expressive watercolour and ink illustrations balance the understated, droll tone of this quirky story...This gently subversive picture book about irksome dinner guests receiving their just desserts will entertain parents and children alike.' Product Information

Kim Kane was born in London in a bed bequeathed by Wordsworth for '...a writer, a dancer or a poet'. Despite this auspicious beginning, she went on to practise law. Family Forest was shortlisted for the 2011 CBCA Awards, and The Vegetable Ark and Esther's Rainbow (also with Sara Acton) were both CBCA Notable Books. Pip: The Story of Olive won the 2008 Barbara Ramsden Award and was shortlisted for the 2009 ABIA Awards and Speech Pathology awards. Kim lives with her family in Melbourne. She writes whenever and wherever she can. Sara Acton was born in the Cotswolds and always loved drawing, especially people and other strange creatures. She studied fine art and trained as an art teacher in London. After teaching and practising art for many years in England and NZ she moved to Australia with her family. Sara now lives in a small seaside village near Sydney, where she enjoys writing and illustrating for children in her studio whilst drinking tea and eating far too many biscuits.
